About the position

As a member of a small team, the Outreach Recreation Worker will support the operation of the SHERPA – Supporting Health, Education, Recreation and Personal Autonomy Program in partnership with various community partner. The Outreach Recreation Worker, reporting to the Team Leader, will be responsible for the day to day running of the program including supporting young people into the program, working with them to get the most out of the recreation, adventure, cultural, artistic community-based events and activities, whilst supporting identified pathways for them to strengthen their engagement with services and their community.

 

The Key Selection Criteria for this role is as follows:

  1. Experience in working with complex and vulnerable young people experiencing problematic substance use.
  2. Demonstrated understanding of the principals and practice of harm minimisation-oriented treatment prevention interventions, as well as knowledge of contemporary approaches to youth drug treatment.
  3. Experience in supporting recreation/adventure-based group activities in a therapeutic and safe manner.
  4. Experience in developing linkages and connections with external community activities and programs.
  5. Knowledge and understanding of adolescent development and ability to practice a range of interventions including assessment, casework, care planning, advocacy, group work, crisis intervention and collaborative outreach-based service delivery.
  6. Demonstrated capacity to work effectively both independently and within a multi-disciplinary team setting.
