About the position
The purpose of the Peer Worker function will be to support families and caregivers of young people to lead their own unique relational recovery process and navigate the complex systems of care. The Family Peer Worker is responsible for providing support, guidance, and advocacy for families and caregivers of young people aged 12-25 engaged in the BounceBack program, utilising expertise developed through lived experience.
The BounceBack Peer Worker role is undertaken by a suitably qualified person with lived/living experience as a parent or caregiver of a young person with mental health challenges, who have accessed mental health or other related services specifically to support their mental wellbeing. Through sharing wisdom from their own experiences, the Family Peer Worker will inspire hope and encouragement in the recovery journey for Families and Carersof young people accessing YSAS BounceBack services.
You will need
1. A lived experience of being a Family member or Carer of young people with mental health challenges, who have accessed mental health or other related services specifically to support their mental wellbeing and has the ability to reflect on this with others in supportive communication.
2. Demonstrated understanding of Youth and Family work ethics and practice approaches
3. Able to advocate effectively for Families and Carers of young people, based on their choices
4. Strong skills in developing and maintaining relationships with participants, staff and other key stakeholders
5. Demonstrated understanding of the biopsychosocial model of mental health
6. Demonstrated ability to facilitate the active involvement of Families and Carers in the development, planning, delivery and evaluation of services
