  • Fixed term until  March 2028
  • Part-time (38 hours per fortnight )
  • Remuneration SCHCADS level 3, dependent on qualifications and experience  + 12% Employer superannuation
  • Not a current YSAS services user

 

About the position

YSAS is committed to:

  • Ensuring young people are meaningfully involved in decisions that impact young people;
  • Providing employment opportunities and pathways for young people with lived experience of YSAS services; and
  • Valuing lived-experience expertise and embedding this in organisational systems and structures.

The Youth Peer Advocate position is a targeted position established at YSAS to enable young people (as defined under YSAS service delivery) with recent lived experience utilising YSAS services to be involved in YSAS decision making, advocating for, advising and directly influencing change within and across the organisation. Therefore, the position explicitly requires the specialist skills of a young person who has a lived experience of recently utilising YSAS services.

 The Youth Peer Advocate will:

  • Provide advice, support and advocacy from a lived and living experience perspective; and
  • Represent the voices of young people in decision-making. 

 

Key Selection Criteria: 

  1. Bring lived experience expertise of YSAS services and living experience of being a young person into YSAS decision- making and represent young people in YSAS decision- making – be a voice for young people
  2. Ability to communicate with and engage YSAS staff and young people from diverse backgrounds and identities
  3. Ability to lead, inspire and be inspired by young people
  4. Ability to work collaboratively and independently (with support) when needed
  5. Willingness to practice self-care, maintain boundaries, and seek support as required
  6. Is curious, has an inquiring mind and is passionate about youth peer advocacy
